Seabourn Quest Cruise to Antarctica: Cuverville Island
A beautiful day to spend at this landing! This area is home to 6,500 breeding pairs of the charismatic little Gentoo Penguins. The colony was spread out along the snow-covered beach area and some had made their way up the hillsides to the rocky areas to start building their nests.
The snow on the mountain tops was glistening from the sun with reflections of the landscape in the aqua blue waters. The snow beneath our feet was crystallizing and sticky…it was a warm day with even a few cases of sunburn. Many climbed one of the hillsides to get a spectacular view of the area for photography. A few enjoyed a “penguin slide” down the hill on the return. From the ship, we had panoramic views from every deck. The light was perfect.
