Aperture Tip: Edit Video Within Aperture

I’m often asked about my preferences for digital photography workflow software. There are numerous options out there but the one I currently use is Aperture. I also know Adobe’s Lightroom quite well but I switched from Microsoft PCs to the Apple’s Mac system in 2004, specifically due to Aperture. Unfortunately I found that Aperture wasn’t quite ready for primetime so I moved over to Adobe’s Lightroom. Eventually Apple solved most of the issues with the first version of Aperture and when Aperture 3.0 came along I moved my entire digital workflow back over to Aperture. So with that brief intro I want to move on and share with you one of my favorite features in Apple’s Aperture program.

Following is the first of what I plan to call Aperture’s Tips and Tricks. Aperture has the simple ability to work with video files, without having to put them in to a dedicated video editor such as iMovie or Final Cut Pro X. I use both iMovie and FCPX but if I can get away with doing a minimal edit in Aperture I’m very happy to do so. The ability to explain certain procedures or techniques is often more efficient in video form so to show you how I edit video in Aperture, I’ve created a short video.
