Flickr’s CEO Marissa Mayer Inserts Foot and Twists!

A couple of days ago I wrote about the new changes taking place at Flickr. Overall pretty positive other than the fact Flickr removes Metadata/Contact Information from all photos other than the largest, high resolution version.  Then yesterday Flickr’s CEO Marissa Mayer stuck her foot in her mouth and gagged out the offensive comment, “There’s no such thing as Flickr Pro today because [with so many people taking photographs] there’s really no such thing as professional photographers anymore.”  Good flipping grief. No wonder Flickr doesn’t have any respect for photographer’s Metadata/Contact Information. How can we get anybody to respect the ownership of our digital content if the boss’s attitude thinks nobody cares about their work? Even if she were right, there are people who don’t earn their full time living taking photos, that technically are not professionals, but are still interested in making sure people respect their artistic, intellectual, photographic property. Come on Marissa. I challenge you to become part of the answer instead of the problem. Please join us in getting the world to Stop The Stripping of Metadata/ Contact Information from our pictures. The new Flickr is absolutely gorgeous but without the support of Metadata/Contact Information it’s part of the problem rather than the answer.
