Holy Grail of Lens Design Harvard Invents Flat Elements
Holy Grail of Lens Design Harvard Invents Flat Elements. Harvard’s school of engineering and applied sciences recently made a breakthrough discovery that has allowed them to build lenses that are ultra thin. In an online article titled, Perfect colors, captured with one ultra-thin lens, this Harvard news and events post talks about how they did it. What’s so unique about this new lens technology is it allows for one very small, thin lens to correct the different colored waves of light that have always required three thick lenses with the prior technology.

Based on this new discovery they predict all lenses will be vastly smaller and lighter. Who knows how long this will take to get into the products we can all purchase but the post states, “Harvard’s Office of Technology Development has filed for a provisional patent on the new optical technology and is actively pursuing commercial opportunities”. Wow, this could possibly be closer than we all think.
