IPad as a Photographers Tool~Update
Awhile back I wrote a piece on using Apples IPad as a device to store my images on while traveling. I had taken my IPad to Vietnam and tried using it exclusively as my sole archiving tool. For those who read that earlier post you know that I came away a bit disappointed since I quickly ran out of room for storing so many images. I was using a 64Gig version of the Apple IPad and my total number of gigs for the Vietnam shoot was 150+. However, I was impressed with the possibilities and I’m confident the time is closing in on the IPad being an amazing device for photographers.
One of my interests is keeping up to speed with other photographers and I recently ran across a great blog by a gentleman named Terry White. He has a very informative writeup on how he currently uses the IPad. Unfortunately, the issue I ran in to, not enough space, has not been solved but Terry is using his in a studio setting that works extremely well. I thought those of you who follow this blog might be interested in seeing additional information from another source. Click on the photo above to go to Terry White’s blog and read about his experience with Apple’s IPad.

Yes I knew you could use the SD card reader still. Like Terry I was plugging the Compact Flash Card reader into the Camera Connection kit. I will have to try to find my camera cable to hook it directly up to the IPad. I will let you know how it goes with the IPad and no laptop.

Thanks for the post Dan. I am leaving for Prague soon and was planning on leaving the laptop behind and using just the IPad. I read the Terry White post and did not realize you cannot use the camera connection kit with a card reader anymore. That would not have been good to find out in Prague and not be able to back up my images. Stupid for Apple to do that. So I just ordered the M.I.C. Compact Flash Reader just in the nick of time. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also I received the photo vest you recommended. Very nice!

Fred, are you aware that the you can still use the SD card reader for the IPad? The type you can’t hook directly into the Ipad is the Compact Flash variety. Maybe you already know this but just wanted to check to make sure. You can still use CF cards if you hook the camera up to the IPad so the power is supplied by the camera battery. Have a great time in Prague and let me know how things go with your first trip using the Ipad for photography.
