Second Body Recommendation
Hi Dan,
Would you recommend getting an OM-5 as a second body to the OM-1, or using the money to replace the OM-1 for an OM-1 ii if you have limited funds?
Thanks in advance for the reply,
Luis

Luis, I guess it all depends on what you typically shoot with your OM System cameras. If general travel is your thing then the OM-5 may be all you need. But for me, I’m interested in the most current AF capabilities of the OM-1 Mark ll and I’m also enthralled with the new Graduated ND filter. Wow, the graduated ND is a game changer for landscape work. I realize the OM-1 Mark ll is over double the price of the OM-5 but I’m convinced it’s worth it. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Dan,
I received the OM-1 ii, and have been testing it for the last few days. I haven’t been overwhelmed by the auto focus and ibis as compared to the OM-1. The progress seems to be neglegible. I know it has other improvements like the graduated filter, and the bigger buffer, but these are not game changers to me. Much better BIF would be,but it doesn’t seem to be there. I’m thinking of returning the camera.
Have you seen a big improvement in BIF?
Thanks,
Luis

Thanks for your input Luis. I’ve actually been very happy with the improvements I’ve seen in AF and other features in the new OM-1 Mark ll. I’m very pleased with the rubber coating on the back and front command dials. I’m also using the Split ND much more than I ever thought. It’s so handy not to have to drag the external Split ND filters along. As far as AF for BIF is concerned, have you tried adjust the AF Sensitivity? I shoot mine on a Plus 2. That might be helpful to you. Let me know how it goes.

Dan, thank you. I travel a lot and like to travel light, but normally with two bodies and some lenses. The second body is normally smaller, as a back-up, but also to be used for street photography in cities and towns. I just ordered the OM-1 ii, and I might sell the OM-1. I’ll keep my second body, a Lumix GX-9 as the back-up, for the time being, unless I decide to use the OM1 as the back-up.
I do a lot of bird photography, so the OM-1 is the main camera for that purpose.
