Updated Firmware Ver 1.1 for Olympus 150-400mm
I have no idea how I missed this. OM Digital Solutions has released Updated Firmware Ver 1.1 for Olympus 150-400mm lens. It was announced on November 14th, 2023. The website states simply, “Improved Lens Stability.” I’m not sure what that means, but so far, it seems like it’s doing a much better job finding the subject and sticking with it when used in Bird Detection Mode. For details on installing the firmware update, click on Firmware Update for Olympus Cameras.

In front of the bird, you can see branches and berries, highly out of focus. Even with these elements blocking the viewing path, the AF saw past them and focused on the bird’s eye. Below is a sample of the image enlarged to 100% to show critical focus.

It will take time to see how much the Updated Firmware Ver 1.1 for Olympus 150-400mm firmware update will improve the OM-1’s AF. But it already seems as though the subject detection AF is considerably more sticky. I’m looking forward to doing more tests.

Appreciate this heads-up Dan for my new 150-400mm Lens. Just completed the Update and looking forward to using what sounds to be a powerful improvement. Found the OM-1 also had been Updated from 1.2 to 1.5 so our bodies are now current as well. Should be interesting. Thanks for alerting us . . . . .
